Specialist Behaviour Support Services

Why are our behaviour support services different?

Our behaviour support services are different, because we start with you. We take time to get to know you, the people who support you, and what matters most. We are here to listen, learn, and know more about you first. We will chat with you about those moments which might create great stress and distress. We will learn about that with you.

We partner with you to explore how others can support you at those times. You are the expert in your life. You make the decisions, and we’re here to work with you so you can live the life you choose.

Our behaviour support services focus on helping you and your supporters have a good life. We focus on helping others learn about your needs and exploring how we can adjust environments to match your needs. We help your team know how to support you in the way that you want and need.

We also work with the NDIS and follow the rules set by the NDIS Commission. When we need to write reports or behaviour support plans, we will develop these with you. These reports look different, based on what you and your team need.

Restrictive Practices

Sometimes you might have restrictive practices and other safeguards that keep you or others safe. We know that restrictive practices have a big impact on your rights, wellbeing, and sense of safety.

We work closely with you and your team to explore these restrictive practices and to understand what other options there might be. Our focus is always on reducing restrictive practices. We take care to make sure your rights, safety, and voice stay at the centre.

Who do our behaviour support practitioners work with?

Our behaviour support practitioners work with people of all ages. We work with children, teenagers, and adults with disability who experience changes in behaviour that may make daily life more difficult. We also work closely with a person's family members, support workers, and other professionals who know them well.

Behaviour support is for anyone who needs extra help to feel safe, calm, and understood.

What do our behaviour support practitioners do?

Our behaviour support practitioners get to know the person and the people around them. We look for patterns in behaviour and work out what the person might need. We focus on finding out what someone is trying to communicate, what might be making life harder for them, and how we can reduce stress and increase quality of life.

Our behaviour support practitioners will:

  • Learn about the person and what is important to them.

  • Complete assessments to understand strengths, needs, and what is happening in the person's environment.

  • Understand the reasons why the behaviour might be happening.

  • Recommend changes to the environment, supports, or systems around a person, so we can meet the needs of the person.

  • Work with the person and their supporters to make a plan. This plan focuses on increasing quality of life by supporting the person's rights, safety and wellbeing.

  • Work with the person to support their rights and help them have a voice.

  • Support the person to make decisions by giving information in ways they understand, and helping others listen to their choices.

  • Teach others how to use the plan and support the person.

  • Check in and change or adjust things in the plan if needed.

  • Speak up if something is unsafe or if restrictive practices are used in the wrong way.

Our behaviour support practitioners write Behaviour Support Plans (BSPs) and Assessment Reports that meet the NDIS Commission's requirements, including Interim and Comprehensive BSPs that use restrictive practices when needed.
